Avoiding autocues…

Whilst we use autocues at Big Ant, we encourage people not to use them.

Unless you are very experienced, most of your concentration will go on reading the text, whilst the vital part of establishing a connection with your audience will disappear in the effort!

When we film people we will generally have 2 cameras, or we will film it twice from 2 different angles, or we can film in HD to allow a zoom within the frame.
What does this mean to you?
Well, you can talk a paragraph at a time, knowing that we can now stitch together the different shots to make a seamless interview.

We also recommend writing bullets down to give yourself a framework, and to stop the content from wandering around.

Most people are able to talk with animation and passion about their favorite subject/business for 20 seconds at a time, and please remember you can have several goes at it – you don’t have to get it right first time.

Another tip we give is to have a friend or respected colleague with you when you do it. This should be someone you can take critism off, but who also has high regard for you so they also can give moral support.

Ask to see some of the footage early on, so you can check for word repetitions, strange head nodding, excessive blinking etc. A lot of people look down left or right when they are searching for something to say, and they will be completely unaware of it.

Above all – keep it bite-sized -and remember to SMILE!!
