A zoom compresses the perspective. This is useful in crowd scenes where you want to create the illusion of people almost on top of each other, or in traffic scenes. But in a virtual tour, it ruins the sense of space – as the zoom gets more powerful, so everything appears packed in and cluttered.
Tracks create not only a more cinematic feel, but also show the perspective correctly as if you were walking through yourself.
Visible objects change as you move along the track, and so you then gain a true feel about everythings spacial relationship.
Jibs create a wonderful floating feeling – almost as if you yourself were able to move freely around in space looking at objects. Again – you get a much greater sense of depth due to the non-fixed focal point.
